Change of Ownership
Assisting Through Change of Ownership (“CHOW”)
A CHOW typically occurs when a Medicare-enrolled provider has been purchased by another organization, resulting in the transfer of the old owner’s Medicare Identification Number and provider agreement to the new owner. If the purchaser elects not to accept a transfer of the provider agreement, then the old agreement should be terminated and the purchaser is considered a new applicant in the Medicare program.
Facilitating a CHOW
Effectively facilitating a CHOW includes navigating complex state and federal regulations. If not executed properly, the purchaser can be exposed to potential liability and delayed reimbursement. Advis can also assist in the transition of any other type of state-licensed facility that must obtain approval for the CHOW process. Please see our Certificate of Need section for information concerning Advis’ additional expertise.
